If you haven’t noticed we have a thing for helping you plan an epic holiday. We also have a thing for small group trips. This month we’ve decided to merge these two loves and create an epic guide for visiting the 7 Wonders of the World with some of our favorite group trips.
World Wonders History
But first, a brief history lesson about the wonders of the world. It’s believed that the number 7 was chosen by the Greeks because it is lucky. In ancient times, 7 meant luck and prosperity. Of the original 7 Wonders of the World, only one remains which is the Pyramids of Giza. This led to a large campaign run in 2007 and voted on by over 100 million people to determine the New Wonders of the World or the 7 Wonders of the Modern World.
The Old Wonders of the World included:
The Pyramids of Giza
Colossus of Rhodes
Hanging Gardens of Babylon
Lighthouse of Alexandria
The Statue of Zeus at Olympus
Temple of Artemis at Ephesus
Mausoleum at Halicarnassus
And you might be surprised to hear that the pyramids of Giza did not make the cut for the New Wonders of the Modern World.
The New Wonders of the World include:
The Great Wall of China (China)
Christ the Redeemer (Brazil)
Machu Picchu (Peru)
Chichen Itzu (Mexico)
The Roman Colosseum (Italy)
Taj Mahl (India)
We were a bit shocked to find that the pyramids of Giza hadn’t made the cut, or to that end, that none of the architecture in Egypt made the final cut. Because of this, we’ve decided to share our favorite small group trips that you can take to each of the wonders including the Pyramids of Giza. We’ll call it Unbound’s 8 Wonders of the World.
Traveling to each of these sites is easier than ever, especially with these small group trips that offer a different experience and way of traveling around the world. We were inspired to write this post when Kiersten, who runs the Blonde Abroad, announced a new set of all female group trips to Petra. In honor of her new trips we decided to research trips like this that can take you to any of the world’s wonders in a more unique and authentic way.
What group trips can you take to the New Wonders of the World:
